By Allyson File, Client Care Specialist for Home Rental Services
Sometimes your career takes you in directions you never expected. Only to bring you right back to where you started.
My path in real estate has been a little bit of a full circle journey, and it’s one I’m especially excited about sharing with our rental property owners. If we haven’t met yet, my name is Allyson and I am a Client Care Specialist here at HRS.
Right out of college, I started my career here at Home Rental Services, spending my first two years learning the ins and outs of the home rental and property management business. I have such fond memories of my very first “real world” job working at HRS. It was my first true introduction to the industry, and I quickly learned how much goes into helping property owners and renters successfully navigate the investment and home rental process.
After that, my career took me into the relocation industry side of real estate, including working in the largest real estate firm in Chicago as a relocation consultant. I gained more experience helping people navigate major moves, some which were corporate rental relocation moves. I learned how important housing is when someone is starting a new job, moving to a new city or making a major life transition.
Then life took me in another wonderful direction. I became a mom and stayed home with our kids for many years. As they got older, I missed the energy that working in the relocation and home rental industry gave me and began getting my feet wet again. For the past few years, I’ve worked part-time with a relocation company here in Kansas City allowing me to stay connected to the real estate industry while easing back into this next chapter…
And now I am here! Back at HRS… back where my career officially began!
Talk about FULL CIRCLE!
What makes this new chapter so exciting is that I can bring all those experiences and knowledge with me and weave them together into property management! Such as…
Why Relocation Matters in the Property Management Industry
At first glance, relocation and rental property management might seem like two different sides of real estate. But they are closely connected.
When someone relocates for work, housing is often one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle. Where will they live? How quickly can they find a home? How long will they be here? Long-term? Short-term? TBD? How do they navigate an unfamiliar market and city?
Corporate relocation is still creating housing demand. In today’s relocation market a segment of transferees are renting which means homes are being rented to vetted corporate professionals. And housing availability is one of the factors companies consider when relocating employees.
This creates an exciting connection for rental property owners.
A home that is professionally managed, well-maintained, appropriately priced and ready to be marketed can be an important part of the housing solution for people relocating into a new city and community.
What This Means for Property Owners
For property owners, understanding who your potential renter is and why they need to rent, can be just as important as understanding the rental market itself. Someone relocating for a new job may be looking for a home quickly. For homeowners who may be relocating out of the area, renting out their home while they are away can be a valuable option, when selling immediately is not ideal or they have plans to move back home after a couple of years at a job site. They need someone they can trust to help manage their home and give them peace of mind that their property is being cared for even when they are living in another city, state or country.
This is where Home Rental Services steps in to ease their stress and workload.
Relocation isn’t the only reason people choose to rent a home. There are many different stages of life and circumstances that make renting a great option. Some people simply enjoy the flexibility of renting without the responsibilities of homeownership. Young adults may want more time before purchasing and settling down.
Sometimes families rent a home while building or renovating a home. Others want the extra space and privacy of a home but aren’t quite ready to buy. There is also a new trend of seniors choosing to rent so they can step away from the maintenance and responsibilities of homeownership and spend more time traveling and enjoying this stage of life. There truly are countless people and reasons why renting a home can be the right and perfect choice!
No matter what the reason, our property management team can help evaluate the property, recommend a competitive rental rate and help prepare the home for the market to lease. Combine all of this with our thorough screening process, yields us great results in vetting the ideal renter for our property owners.
Ultimately, real estate is about people finding a “home.”
Our goal is to help make property owners and our customers feel “at home” and to make their experience a smooth experience.
I’m excited to be back where my real estate career all began. Sometimes going full circle isn’t going backward. It’s coming back “home” with a whole lot more experience!
